In July 1978 the European manufacturer Airbus began work on their second aircraft, the A310. It would be a medium-to long-range wide-body airliner based on the Airbus larger first aircraft the A300. The first flight of the A310 took place on April 3, 1982 with the first service flight in April 1983 with Lufthansa. In 1985 the A310-300 production began as a longer range version of the A310-200 and is capable of carrying an additional 15,430 pounds of fuel in its tail-plane. The last A310 was delivered in June 1998.
Air Bus A310-324 c/n 650 first flew on April 24, 1992 and was delivered to Delta Airlines on March 31, 1993 registered as N835AB. The aircraft served with Delta until it was sold to Air Jamaica on September 5, 1996 and kept N835AB. The aircraft was leased to Air Maldives for 5 months in late 1999. On December 11, 2000 Biman Bangladesh bought the aircraft and registered it as S2-ADH. They also re-engined the aircraft with PW4156A's making it an A310-325. In April 2009 Blue Line bought the aircraft and registered it as F-HBOY. Blue Line failed in October 2010 and the aircraft was stored until August 2011 when it was purchased by United Airways of Bangladesh and soon to be registered and put into service.
