When the Astronauts first started it was a very small group, sort of like a fraternity and they insignia the military placed on the wings of its astronauts became a lapel pin when they were wearing a suit. Only the Astronauts wore it. If you were one of he few that went into space your pin was gold. This is a museum quality reproduction of that pin made in sterling silver with a 24karat gold plate.
