    Museum quality reproduction item
AAF Crash Boat Sterling Pin by Weingarten Gallery
Item Number: P-1355The US Army has more boats than the Navy and the Army has more aircraft than the Air Force, so why shouldn't the Air Force have its own Navy. Years ago the Air Force did have some 'boats' that sure looked a lot like PT Boats of WWII fame. But these were very limited in use to rescue of air crews along the coast of the US where a lot of flying and training took place. The crews on these boats had unofficial 'wings' just as the PT boats did during the war. There were two types of these pins, they looked the same except for the letters on the bow ' either AAF or USAF. This is a reproduction of the AAF pin that is prior to 1947 made in sterling silver and is 2 3/8 inches long with pin back. To see the USAF Crash Boat look up item P-1264.
